So Jorge Cham of www.phdcomics.com fame is doing a wee tour of the UK. Yay!
I would just follow the last few comics if you never have, just to follow the hilarity of his UK border experience. I have seen him before waayyyy back when I was in Vancouver. I went up to Seattle to hang out with my friend Chris and see his lecture. I think he only had two books out then maybe only one! Who knows. I bought volume 1 for my friend M. and then volume 2 for me, since my volume 1 is in Canada. Maybe I'll have to get it when I go home in February so the two are reunited!
It was an excellent lecture (like the one I saw before), very funny and memorable and on my favourite topic Jorge is a very good comedic lecturer and I encourage everyone who might be able to catch one of his lecture to do so! It's not often you have a PhD lecturing on webcomics (he actually left what he was doing to pursue comics full time!)
so effin' tired. getting blitzed last night did not help the second week of insomnia either.
OH WELL I WANTED THE BOOZES.
finished off the quotes for the exhibition, it opens on Nov 2. I will TELL YOU ALL TO SEE IT. even though it is very tiny but i'm like the primary researcher and such!
this weekend involves many shenanigans! i'm never going to sleep again.
Domi's lovely sister sent me a text to see a gig that the lovely Frank Turner might be playing. I was already going to see Zombieland that day with M. so i decided to go in the afternoon before the show. It was Lexepalooza, raising money for Breast Cancer research. So many great singer/songwriters giving their all in a pub with their guitars. Saw some lovely guys and gals, bought a cd, but Frank Turner wasn't on until ten, so M. and I went to see Zombieland and if we felt like it, we would return.
Zombieland was HILARIOUS. Holy crap. Ridiculousness all of it. Highly enjoyable. Fell in love with the Twinkie-obsessed Talahassee, a wee bit.
It was only 8 when we got out of the theatre and so went back up to Camden to see if we could get in! WOO. We did. Slightly guilty to all those really hard core Frank Turner fans as I basically found out about him two weeks ago. But his lyrics and songs are so lovely that I was so bummed that all his London shows were sold out. So that's to L. for telling me about this one.
Man, he just exudes a sense of life, happiness and fun that I have no seen in a while. It was such a tiny gig, like a couple hundred of people and I was about five feet from the stage.
Then the last song, he's pointing at you and telling you to get on stage, you have to listen and take a picture of all those people singing and drunk from listening to bands since 12.
And you dance and sing along at the top of your lungs, like everyone else is doing and smile that you are tired, your legs hurt and you have an hour until you see your bed again. But if you could, that would be the moment that you'd want to last forever.
